Who governs the scan?
AFRICANHEAD.3DS is not the historical object. It is a partial digital representation shaped by scanning, software, earlier decisions and missing information. S0 records the inherited state used in the present work. S4-A is a documented artistic descendant.
Digital circulation can widen access, but it does not settle physical restitution, ownership of the scan or cultural authority over future uses. Unmasking 4 makes those distinctions visible.
